Just like any other body part maintaining the hygiene of the oral cavity is very essential. It is no news that our oral cavity acts as a transporting medium for food water medications and most importantly disease-causing viruses and bacteria. It is solely our responsibility to maintain proper oral hygiene. The hygiene of the the oral cavity should be such that it does not invite/encourage bacterial/fungal growth inside our mouth. Maintaining oral hygiene is not a difficult job but before learning that let us show you what are the consequences of not maintaining oral hygiene. -Foul smell from mouth. -Plaque and tartar on teeth which causes infection in gums. -Bleeding gums. -Loosening of teeth since the infection of the gums has reached till the bone because of lack of hygiene maintenance and treatment. -Widespread caries due to bacterial growth leading to loss of teeth if not treated. And the list can go on and on. All this can simply be avoided by taking out 10 15 minutes per day for hygiene maintenance and by by developing few habits. So, how to to properly maintain your oral hygiene

1. Brushing-you should brush your teeth at least twice a day once in the morning before breakfast and once at night it before going to bed.
Proper brushing technique should be practiced.
Brushing should be done in a circular motion in an inside-out manner for at least two minutes.
Brushes should be replaced after 3 to 4 months.
A toothpaste containing fluoride should be used.
Avoid vigorously brushing your teeth because that leads to to abrasion of the upper surface(enamel/white) of your tooth.

2. Rinsing- apart from brushing, rinsing your mouth is also advised to maintain proper odour and to flush out the small food particles from places the brush cannot reach.
Rinsing should also be done twice a day after brushing with a preferable mouthwash. Rinsing should be done after every meal just with water so that there is no food lodgement.

3. Flossing- flossing place a major role in maintaining oral hygiene especially in places where are toothbrush cannot clean. Flossing should be done at least once a day or more if and when required.

Apart from brushing rinsing and flossing there are few other measures that should be taken in order to maintain oral hygiene.
